How do you make a newly bought domain work?

I recently bought the domain upgrade, and it seemed like everything was properly bought. It came up on the domains page and I set it as the primary domain. I logged in to the ‘Manage my domains’ page, checked everything, and as far as I can see everything looks correct. But when I try going to my blog, it doesn’t open. Every browser I’ve used says it can’t find the page I’m looking for. I have waited a while now and it still doesn’t work. I now tried changing the primary domain back to the .wordpress.com domain, and now it still redirects to the new domain I bought, meaning that my blog is now un-viewable. What am I supposed to do?
