how do you make a page into a home page

I was wondering how do you make a regualr page into a home page, be cause the only thing that shows up now is a bunch of posts, and catogories, and i really want to get rid of that.

I’d guess there’s really only one way to do this, since it’s a blog and posts are the norm in a blog.

    • Write what you want to show up on the “homepage” through one post that will rarely change.
    • Create pages to hold the other content you’d like to hold away from the first page.
    • Make links to those pages in the post on the first page
      • Also, make links to those other pages in your “blogroll” in the sidebar. (This way, those links show up on each page, and the “site’ is easily navigable.)

Other than that, I don’t think it’s possible.

Go to ‘Options’, select the tab ‘Reading’. Under ‘Front Page’, select ‘A Static Page’ (the default is ‘The latest post’). Then select the page you want to put as Front page.

    Well, there you go.

    Learn somethin’ new every day!

Is there a way to remove the “redundant link” for the selected home page in the header? I have one page linked in two spots.

Go to the page editing, delete the existing title and insert a space instead (just hit the space bar), and ‘save’. This way you will no longer see the link in the header.

Another way to do this is to make the front page a page ‘under’ another page. You can do this in the page editing, just see the sidebar and find ‘parent page’ or whatever it is, pick any page (doesnt matter which one), ‘save’, and you’ll no londer see the link in the header.

I’m not able to see the ‘Front Page’ section? what am i missing?… Thanks!

Didn’t read the rest of the instructions, so starting from scratch

    * Log in to Dashboard for your blog

    * Choose “Options” and “Reading”

    * Look for “Front page displays:”

    * Click “A static page (select below)”

    * Choose a page for “Show this page on the front page:”
(have to create the page first)

    * Choose a page for “Show the latest posts on this page:”
(have to create the page first)

    * Click “Update Options” at the bottom

cookeat: are you running wordpress.com or a self-installed wordpress?

If it’s a self-install then please go to the wordpress.org forums because we don’t know how to help you :)

  • Unknown's avatar

ah! yes, self-installed! thanks engtech! sorry for the waste of time! :o)

Just been doing battle with the same problem, and discovered that the “Front page displays:” option only appears when there exists at least one static page in your blog. Just thought I’d mention it to help other people wondering where the option is.

  • Unknown's avatar

I deleted the posts discussing the plugin. User plugins are not allowed here as they would put everybody’s blog at risk and we already have this feature.

  • Unknown's avatar

Timsk, I’me having the exact same problem with a self install, no option for a static front page is appearing.

So how do I create a static page in a blog ?

I forgot that I had asked about this and when I was scanning through my profile, I wondered what all had gone on in this thread. I scanned the new content and saw the answer rto my question! Thanks, greatdvc!
