How do you make your Home page only show one post?

Using the Home page as post page for most recent posts, not a static home page, i wanted to use the Reading settings for Blog pages show at most 1 post and only show the Home page sticky post but changing the reading setting does not seem to have any effect on the number of posts that get displayed on the Home page. Is there any way i can do this?

Try turning off the infinite scroll setting here:
