How do you remove the gray border on image hover

  I am using the Mixfolio theme. I built a gallery, thumbnail grid, linked to media file. Whenever I hover over a image a gray border appears. I have the css upgrade and have tried just about everything to get rid of it without effecting the current layout and look. (example: padding: 0;) that does kind of fix the problem; however, it changes to look. Any help would be wonderful.
