How do you remove the thin border around an image?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I used to be able to remove the thin gray border around images before the recent update. When I change the HTML it removes the border in the preview, but once I update the post the HTML I added is removed. How can I permanently remove the border around an image? Thank you!

    Hi there!

    There were some recent changes to the Visual and Image Editor as explained here:

    Introducing Smoother Editing and New Playlists

    You are correct; currently, the option to edit the border value has been removed. It may be something that we look to add back in in the future. For now, you can remove or add the border by inserting border=0px in the HTML as shown here:

    <img class="alignleft size-large wp-image-15039" src="URL" alt="Featured Image -- 15038" width="584" height="389" border="0px" />

    Just adjust the number 0 to how thick you want the border to be. To be clear, you will need to adjust the image code in the Text Editor. This is explained here:

    Hi Shawna,
    Thanks so much for your e-mail. I followed your advice and unfortunately the border is still there. Could it have anything to do with the theme I am using–Twenty Eleven? This is what I have in the HTML and it is still showing a gray border:

    <img class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-1132″ src=”http://megantillotson.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/colorlove_meg.jpg” alt=”colorLove_Meg” width=”550″ height=”800″ border=”0″ />

    Any other advice? I am doing something wrong?

    Thanks again for your time!

    Sorry about that! It does have to do with the theme.

    Instead, add this code to the CSS panel in your Customization screen:

    img {
    	border-width: 0 !important;
    }

    This will remove borders from all of your images going forward.

    Let me know if you have any trouble with that!

    Shawna,

    I had one more question for you! If I move from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, can I transfer all my blog content and keep everything?
    Any articles that you know of to help guide me in that process?

    Thank you!
    Megan

    Hi there!

    You can definitely keep all of your content! You’ll do this by exporting your WordPress.com site and importing it into your new WordPress.org installation.
