How do you Upload Documents? PDF, Word, etc.
-
Does anyone know how to upload a document on to a blog post? Since the WordPress site has changed I havent known how to upload a Word doc or a PDF where it used to be so easy. Does anyone know how to do it?
Thanks

Yes, it’s dead straightforward once you realize you just use the same uploader as you would for a picture.

I’ve been doing that on add media but after it uploads I can’t find it and have no idea how to put it on a blog post. Any suggestions?

We can’t help without a link to your blog and specifically a post where you’ve tried to add something. Insert To Post should work just the same with a .doc as with a .jpg.

I’m having the same problem trying to upload a .pdf. It goes to Media Library but doesn’t show in the post…

Hi, I was trying to look up raincoaster’s reply of June 15. Clicked on the link and pasted it into the browser, but nothing pulled up. Is there another way to see it? I am having the same problem as dogknitty. I can see my pdfs in the Media Library, but they don’t show up anywhere on my post.

I believe you have to put the link to pdfs in manually. Click on it in your media library and copy the url. Then just as you would any other link, highlight the text you want, click on the link icon, and paste the url in there.

Thanks. I think I got it now, but I first checked “permalink” in the media library, which put the pdf up on my blog like an invisible post. Then I put the URL for that “post” in my article. Clicking on the link takes me to the invisible post, where the actual link to the pdf resides. So it works, but seems a little convoluted. Maybe I shouldn’t have checked the “permalink” box?

yes, you have to put links in manually, otherwise the uploaded files just sit in webspace. If you actually want the PDF to be your post and display on your blog, only using the Vodpod button will do that. Details of that are over at Vodpod.com.

I am having trouble posting a pdf as well. I believe I have followed all the steps…Not sure. I wish it would just go into the post like a picture or a link does. http://www.tobaccofreeweld.wordpress.com

First puts links in manually, oterwise the files which are going to upload will just remain in webspace. It is sure that the link which is posted will apper or not.

The steps are: post editor, click Add Media, click Choose file to upload, select file from your computer, click “File Url” once crunching is over (the URL should appear in the Link URL box), click Insert into post.
If you are talking about “2008-new-products-report”, you either haven’t followed the right steps OR you’re probably having the same problem another fellow blogger complained about earlier – see this thread:

WordPress has added a bunch of new settings for controlling how images and files are inserted into your posts by default. Go to settings > media and you can now set default sizes, alignment, and whether or not the image will link to the full-sized original.
This will allow everyone to set things up the way they want them.
