How does a visitor make a request to become an author?
-
How does a visitor to my blog make a request to become an author? I am using the Author Widget and set-up my site to allow people to create articles without permission. When I review my site, I can’t see a button or place to click to “Request to be an Author”. I may have to create a series of TIP article to help people learn how to Comment and Post their Own Articles.
My audience is generally 55+ with an average age of 71. So I have to handhold them every step of the way. Thanks for your help

It is not much I have to suggest but here it is:
The FAQs have quite a bit about multiple users: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/17/how-do-i-add-more-authors-users-to-my-blog/
Also ass I understand it, there is a new theme especially made for your needs namely Prologue:

How does a visitor make a request? I looked at prologue and it doesn’t meet my layout needs. Any chance you guys will be add more functionality to the “Authors Widget”? Maybe a check box “Request to be an Author”?

Perhaps you can make that widget yourself? There is contact form you can use and also there is a chatbox widget with features from some company. I’ll see if I can find some references…

Unless you know, for a fact, that everyone visiting your blog is a neophyte, please don’t talk down to them. Many people who are 55+ have been using computers for 20+ years.

Here you have some suggestions – meebo and a contact form:

I think the contact form would be suitable for anyone on the internet has has an email. Everyone seems to know how to use that and the contact form is a way of email.
