How does “first year free” work?

I don’t understand why I’m being charged for creating an account when the first year is supposed to be free?

Hello there. The WordPress account is free and you start with the free plan. If you want a paid plan you have the options to pay annually or monthly. Any paid plan is NOT free for one year. What is free for one year is the domain, but only if you purchase any annual paid plan.
