How does Google handle indexing when we purchase a wp.com site-redirect
-
I am wondering how Google handles indexing when we purchase a wordpress.com site-redirect?
Lets say I started with name.wordpress.com and google indexed that site. Then a while later I rename my url to name2.wordpress.com and purchase a site redirect so that traffic from name.wordpress.com is redirected to name2.wordpress.com.
Will Google eventually index name2.wordpress.com? Or will Google only keep name.wordpress.com in its index because that is the original site that is being redirected to the second site?
And if Google does eventually index name2.wordpress.com, will it do away with and discard the original indexing results from name.wordpress.com or will it always keep name.wordpress.com in its index because that is the original site that is being redirected to a second site?

It will take about 3 months for search engine re-indexing to occur when you redirect a URL. Once that’s done there will only be entries under the new URL appearing in search results.

I hasten to add that during that timeframe every click to the content under the first URL will seamlessly redirect those who click it to the same content under the new URL.

Thank you TT! You answered my question precisely…I was worried that there would be no re-indexing, so I am happy to learn that it will do so eventually even if it takes a few months…
