How does Google Reader work
-
I have noticed a couple of people looking at my blog via Google Reader. These people are not showing up on my SiteMeter stats. Is Google Reader like a free pass so that people I don’t want reading my blog can read it, theoretically without me knowing? (A good way to get around the whole IP address recognition thing?) Thanks!

It’s an RSS feed reader. I read 99% of the blogs I read via Google Reader. I rarely open up a post unless I want to comment on it.

It is not a problem. Views via feed readers are all views of your blog and is normal as katm suggests. The fact is that sitemeter only reads your blog visitors to your pages itself and not feed readers.

So if, theoretically, I could ban IP addresses, does this mean those banned people wouldn’t be able to read my site through an RSS feed either?

No if you make your feed available everyone can help themselves.
Re: banning IP addresses – It’s not usually every effective because getting another one is easy as pie. -
