How does one *actually* delete one's blogs?
-
WordPress instructions to delete blog: Dashboard/Tools/Delete Blog is erroneous!
There is no “Delete Blog” on the Tools page & no drop down menu.
How does one *actually* delete one’s blogs?
Why is it not possible to close my account? I haven’t used WordPress in 5 years – and then only to set up a small test blog. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided you are logged in under the Admin username account that registered the blog in question you can delete any blog registered under that username by using these instructions. http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
After you do that if you cannot locate a verification email, look in your email client spam/junk mail filter for the email with the blog deletion verification link in it and click that link. If clicking it does not work then copy and paste the link into your upper browser bar and click.
Deleted blog URLs are not recycled http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
Although username accounts are not deleted, so you cannot be impersonated and have your reputation affected by anyone registering the same username in the future, there are steps you can take that amount to removing all personal information and result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/
1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.
2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
http://wordpress.com/#!/following/subsettings/3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:
http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.htmlIMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting a blog or blog content does not remove any indexed content from appearing in the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

OK, the instructions at http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/ state:
“In your site’s dashboard, go to Tools → Delete Site”
but there is no Delete Site listed or offered.
“Click the dropdown menu and choose the option: Permanently delete my site’s address and all content.”
but there is no Dashboard / Tools drop down menu, just info re “Press This” and “Post by Email.”
Why is this? I am the creator and sole user of this blog.
Thanks. -

I clicked on http://cvumc.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php?page=delete-blog -
Thanks for the response. It seems you are no longer the Admin of that blog logged in under the email address that was used to register the blog. I tagged this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

OK, Update: After reading your note, I realized I had not signed in as admin. Then did so using user n password. Then deleted the site before realizing that the admin email addy is one I no longer use, so the confirmation email is going nowhere. I then changed the email addy to an active one… so don’t know if the software on WordPress end will realize this and re-route the confirmation. I am subscribed here. Thanks.

An email cannot be “re-routed”, but if you try to delete the blog again, you’ll receive a new confirmation email at the new address.
-
I switched to my admin ID and have tried repeatedly to delete this blog, but get no confirmation email and the blog just won’t go away.

-
I use Mailwasher and see all email details before downloading. Thanks, but this is not the problem.

I have deleted your blog as requested.

Hi there, I’m having a similar problem. I’ve gone through the admin and pressed delete blog, had the email confirmation which I clicked but the blog hasn’t gone. I want to close http://www.sewwhitedigitalart.wordpress.com as I’m making a new blog under a different name . Please can you help me delete it.
-
http://sewwhitedigitalart.wordpress.com/ is definitely gone. Have you tried clearing your browser’s cache?
