how does one ensure continuation of domain name/

  On 23rd January, we received a notice that the credit card number which pays for the domain name, drtomsbooks.com had expired; we updated it immediately but today a notification has been received that the domain name expires tomorrow. Since it was my understanding that renewal would be automatic, given that valid credit card details are available, and I cannot make the payment other than through wordpress, can you please tell me what else must be done.
