How does search work in posts page?

    Hello, in my POSTS list page, (the one that shows all posts) there are several categories.

    Published, drafts, scheduled binned and a magnifying glass which when pressed display: Search Posts.

    Hopefully we are no all on the same page.

    My Question:
    What does this do?

    My assumption:
    Using relevant keywords I can quickly find any one of my 200 odd posts.

    In practice this is not quite true.
    After a few weeks of experimentation from just one keyword to the whole post title, SEARCH still throws me up a list – varying it seems in length.

    Therefore I still need to scroll through several options to find the title (post) I want. I may as well do this from the get go and save time.

    So clearly, I am misunderstanding this function and do not know how it use it.

    Second question ( at risk of causing confusion)

    Is it possible to search for just one post please?

    Hi there,

    The included free search tools on WordPress.com are not as refined as what you would find with major search engines such as Google. Because of this, search results will often contain more info that you are accustomed to seeing.

    If you wish you can enable Jetpack search on your site and use that to do more effective keyword searches and it will produce more targeted search results with your keywords highlighted in the search result page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/jetpack-search/

    I think this would depend on several factors such as how common (or uncommon) the search term is that you are using, and the most effective search results are those where the term being used is as specific to the post you are looking for as possible.
