How does the domain name change when going to wp.ORG?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi everyone:

HostMonster has my domain name. so that when someone types in ‘deborahrutter.com’ there is a re-direct to ‘www.deborahrutter.wordpress.com.’

If I move my blog to wordpress.ORG, and still have HostMonster doing the re-direct, does the name change to deborahrutter.wordpress,ORG?

Some people have one or the other of two addresses…

    thanks, helpers!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.ORG is not a hosting service. That is where the wordpress software for self-hosted blogs is supported and distributed.

You would need pay for a web hosting account (such as at hostmonster) and then point that domain name to that webhost. After 24-72 hours for the nameserver change to stabilize, then you would need to install the wordpress software and configure it, then you would have to transfer all of your content from here over there in into the new blog. Your blog would end up being at http://deborahrutter.com/ . http://support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

Do note that you would be responsible for all upgrades and the installation of all themes, etc., and you would have to do all the troubleshooting when something went wrong, and you would also have to do regular backups of your site so that if something really bad happened you would not lose everything. With a blog hosted here at wordpress.COM, all of that is done for you.
