How does the Google Analytics tool for WordPress.com (Business Plan) compare to using Google Analyti
-
I am considering moving a self-hosted wordpress site over to wordpress.com using the Business plan so that we can continue to use google analytics. I was wondering if I will still have all of the google analytics functionality that we currently have on our self hosted site. Or will the google analytics tool provided by the wordpress.com Business plan be a more scaled down version of what we have now?
I was also wondering if it is possible to import the historical data from google analytics (from the self hosted version of the site) into the google analytics tool on wordpress.com so that we have info that can be compared over the past year.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The short answer is, yes. The GA offered in the Business plan is regular GA that you are used to. The long answer is that there are a few specific features that don’t work the same with WordPress.com. Can you tell me what specific functionality you are currently using?

Since the site will be the same property to GA, the historical data should all be there. However, in order for it to be completely accurate you would need to have your permalinks and URL structure match exactly. WordPress.com uses a specific permalink structure that may not match what you are using right now.

Thank you very much for your response! In regards to google analytics, I am not the person that handles the reporting. So I’m not sure what functionality they are currently using. Would it be possible to let me know which specific features will not work the same with WordPress.com?
Could you also let me know the permalink structure that wordpress.com uses so that I could check to see if what we are currently using would match?
Many Thanks!

For example, you can set up conversion tracking for pageloads but cannot embed more nuanced event tracking, like contact form submissions.
I suspect you may be better off sticking with your self-hosted site if you have specific GA requirements.
Here is an example of WordPress.com permalink structure for a post:
