How does WordPress use my Twitter account for Publicize?
-
I’d like to have my posts automatically tweeted. In order to do this, I have to authorize WordPress.com to follow new people and update my profile. How much will WordPress tinker with my account? Who does it want me to follow? In what ways might it update my profile?

WordPress.com does not “tinker” with your Twitter account and I don’t know where that notion is coming from. They provide the Publicize app which autoposts to Twitter and that’s all it does. You can either choose to use it or not.

I wasn’t intending to be accusatory. The Publicize app requires the user to agree to the following in order to authorize autoposts:
This application will be able to:
Read Tweets from your timeline.
See who you follow, and follow new people.
Update your profile.
Post Tweets for you.So that I might make an informed decision about using it or not, I want to better understand why the app asks for permissions beyond simply posting tweets, and what it might use those permissions for.

It says that Twitter doesn’t break down to individual permissions. If we want to be able to post a tweet in your behalf, the other permissions come with it.
