How does WP know where I access from?

When I look in the stats, I don’t see my own accesses, at least not from Canada, where I am. Either my accesses don’t show up at all, or its under the US.

    So…

    1) does WP somehow filter “me” out of the statistics? If so, how? Does this happen on the backend, or does it also filter out my accesses from the front-end too?

    2) is there a way to test the geo mapping to see where WP think’s my IP is from?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please read the stats entry in the support documentation at this link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

    1. If the blog is a public blog when you are logged in and visit your stats are not recorded.
    2. See here for geotagging http://en.support.wordpress.com/geotagging/

    1) if you are logged in and your site is public, then your visits don’t count. They look at the IP address and reverse it for the country it is in.

Note: IP addresses are many times not unique for a visitor as ISP’s and hosts are putting many users on the same IP address (last I looked WordPress.com had 6 IP addresses for my blog – and I share those with 65,000,000 other blogs)

    2) probably not directly as such – but pick a low traffic time for your blog – log out and visit a very low traffic Post directly – see what country indexes up hopefully by one and also that your page views index only by one (to make sure you are the only visitor)

and a certain percentage of IP addresses for some reason will not resolve even to a county level – or as one person that helps in the forum – used to live in Hawaii and his IP address resolved to Utah or Colorado I think – another friend in Seattle – their IP address resolves to Washington DC (other side of the country)

Many folks have dynamic ie. ever changing IP addresses. My IP address never indicates where I actually reside.

My IP address is static but resolves to a different city – my old web site was a static IP address – I still use them for my email, – many hosts charge extra for a static IP address – but static sure made getting my custom email to work easy
