    sorry for no links but

Do you have email associated with your Blue Host blog? If so you need to make arrangements for the mail – several ways – some cost others are no cost

    1) review the terms of service to make sure you are not going to do something against them (your own ads, affiliate links, ecommerce etc.)

    2) get a blog here with a name you like (domain mapping will over wright the name but I like something close to the custom domain name and not “stupid-name.wordpress.com)

    3) export the contents from the Blue Host blog

    4) import the contents to your blog here – make sure to check the box to bring media (pictures) over

    5) make sure things moved correctly

    5) using FTP / cpannel etc – make a full backup of your Blue Host files in a format you can read on your PC –

5b) remember – the only media / pictures that transfer are the ones that are connected to pages and posts – and that is why the backup of the files (I just did a full FTP backup of the whole file structure when I moved)

    6) change the name servers and domain map your name to your new blog here

    7) take a long walk (yes, serious here) – it take 24 to 72 hours for changes to reach the far corners of the internet and for access to your new blog here settles down

We just have a website (no blog). There isn’t alot of data out there, but what is there I have moved to the new wordpress website.

Now… my dilemma is do I keep bluehost to keep the website name? or do I cancel it, and change my wordpress website name to the current one? i don’t like the idea of having to map the sites together. I just want it all under wordpress so it’s “easier”…

The guy I work for wants to keep the name. I’m afraid if I cancel it at bluehost, and change it on wordpress that i might lose it, chances are slim that it will be lost, but still….

Once you have moved the content and are sure everything is fine. You want to Map the Domain to your blog here $ 13.- / year – that will make the old bookmarks and such at least get visitors to your site here, your friends will not abandon you etc.

Domain Mapping just changes your blog name here to your custom domain name for visitors to your site. I have domain mapping for my main site.

You can’t transfer the domain registration to WordPress.COM, they are not able to accept incoming domain name transfers. You do not need to keep the Blue Host hosting, just the domain name registration (probably in the range of $ 10.- / year) – If you want to keep blue host for an email account, then the cost is still way less than usually hosting. But there are other ways to do email if you want an account that matches your custom domain name.
