How is a "view" determined?

How is a view determined? A visitor goes to the home page and then can view any number of posts by scrolling down the page. When and how is it determined that he stops to view one?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
A view is determined by someone visiting a specific page or individual post on your blog. If someone visits just your home page that’s counted as a view on your home page. If they click through to an individual blog post, that’s counted as a view on that post. (It won’t count as a view for that post if they just read the post on your home page.)
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :) You can also read more about how your blog’s stats are calculated here: Stats

Sorry—still don’t get it. I think the words I am having trouble understanding are “click through to an individual blog post.” Suppose a visitor has come to my home page. NOW–what does he do to “click through” to another post?
The “average view per visitor” stat seems to suggest that one visitor may be responsible for more than one “view.” I just don’t get it. Would you mind trying again? Sorry to be so dense.

Hi there,
No problem! Sorry if my initial explanation was confusing.
When someone views your home page, they are at this address (shown in the address bar in their browser): http://hintsandechoes.wordpress.com/
That visitor can read any of the blog posts on your home page there, and it will only count as a view for the home page.
However, if that visitor clicks on the title for your blog post “Valentine’s Day–A chance to put a surprise in someone’s mailbox” they are taken to the individual blog post at this address: http://hintsandechoes.wordpress.com/2014/02/06/valentines-day-a-chance-to-put-a-surprise-in-someones-mailbox-2/
That’s the address for that individual post, and visiting that address will count as a view for that post. So if a single visitor goes to your home page and then clicks the title to go to the individual blog post, that’s 2 views from that visitor.
Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)

Great! Got it. I assume the way the visitor finds the title of let’s say the Valentine’s Day post is by looking at the “recent posts” column.
What happens—statwise—if he clicks on a previous month in the archives column, which will bring him to the three or four posts ?

When visitors go to your home page, they can either click on the title in your list of posts on the left or in the Recent Posts section of your sidebar. Here’s a screenshot to show you what I mean: https://cloudup.com/cjN2dMZnGfE

If someone clicks on a month in your archives, that counts as a view for that archives page. If the visitor clicks on the title of a post from that archives page, it will open the individual post and count as a view for that post.
