How is a wordpress.com site with a custom domain name different from a bluehost hosted site?

  I want to start a blog with my own domain name and I am trying to figure out how wordpress.com with a custom domain name is different from one hosted by one of your affiliates…

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Don’t let the similar interfaces fool you. WordPress.com is limited to free themes and the code cannot be modified unless you upgrade.

  When using Bluehost, or another other host, you will grab the WordPress installation files from WordPress.org and upload onto their hosting servers. This will allow you to install any theme/plugin of your choosing, free or paid. You can modify, customize, or do anything else you want with the site.
