How is it that “private” posts get hits?
-
I am showing visitors to my site landing on “private” posts. How is that possible?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Are you the only Admin and user on your blog?
Or do your have others users with Admin or Editor status? -
Just me. I am the only admin. Stat counter is showing hits to private posts. I don’t get it.

There gas just been an update of the Stats system and a new added feature for front page views. Other bloggers have been reporting stat spikes. I’m wondering if the hits you see weren’t due to the stats system changes.

I wonder if it’s possible that the new changes to the Stats system caused this. In any event only Staff can answer this question.

Yes, that’s the Snap Preview that some people use. If the post is private, they will see a Page Not Available, they will not see the post itself.
Also, if the post is password-protected, anyone clicking on the title counts as a hit, even if they don’t have the password and can’t see the post.

Thank you. What is Snap preview and how would they be seeing posts that have been marked private via that? In other words, how on earth would they find the private post to begin with?
-
It’s a little screenshot service for when people hoverover wordpress.com blogs. They don’t find the private post. They just find your blog, and someone may link to the post.
