How long are posts archived?

So, I thought about making a blog over the course of 18 years. Really its more like a diary intended to be given to someone on their 18th birthday. This is assuming I’m alive then and that wordpress still exists. (Perhaps by then we’ll all be jacked into a nueral net anyway.)

    – How long will Archives go back?
    – Whats the best way to back up my blog? Export?
    – Does Export include any uploaded media like pics and videos?
    – Could I take this Export and “convert” it to another medium besides wordpress (not how, just do the tools/methods exist)?
    – Would I be better off going with wordpress.org?

Would such a project be better done with another medium? I do recognize that in the future I may decide I like blogging and open up the blog to public viewing etc.

  • 1. Archives go back as far as you need them to.

    2. You can export an importable version of your blog from Tools -> Export in your Dashboard.

    3. No, unfortunately you’d have to download the files individually if you wanted to back them up. If exported/imported to/from a WordPress blog, all attached media files would be automatically transferred.

    4. Unfortunately, no, but some platforms do allow you to import from a WordPress export file.

    5. That depends on specifically what you need. There are definitely some big differences: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
