how long do inactive domains stick around

    I am thinking about starting a blog but the 2 different domains I am looking for appear to have already been taken. However, when I go to either of them (%username%.wordpress.com) one does not show up and the other shows a page but it was never setup and has not been touched in almost a year. Is there a mechanism for deleting domains that are unused for a certain amount of time? Is it possible to find out who has the domain and see if they still want it or not? I am a n00b with this stuff so I am not sure how that works.

    Blogs are not deleted or recycled here at wordpress.com. Choose a different name that is available.
