How long does Domain Mapping cancellation take?
-
I requested cancellation of Domain Mapping yesterday morning, and am wondering when it will go into effect.
Here is the process of what I did:
1) Purchased a domain on hostgator (www.americanhistoryusa.com)
2) Purchased Domain Mapping on WordPress
3) Upon further research, decided to download WordPress software and install/operate it through my hostgator domain, rather than use Domain Mapping
4) Requested that the Domain Mapping be cancelled
5) Was told that a “Happiness Engineer” would review the request
6) When I checked back later that day, it said “Cancellation Pending”
7) Now when I check there is no “Cancellation Pending” message
8) ?I understand this can take some time, but I’ve received no email correspondence to even indicate that the request was received. How long does this process usually take?
p.s. If it does take awhile, any hints on how to undo this link from the hostgator side? The nameservers on my CPanel do not refer to WP at all, so I’m unsure of where WP inserted the logic to do the redirect.

I tagged this thread so that staff takes a look. This being said:

Actually, according to a WHOIS lookup, you bought that domain name from Automattic (WordPress.com).So in addition to cancelling the domain mapping, you MUST change the nameservers so that they point to HostGator instead (which they aren’t at the moment).

airoddysey,
Thank you for the quick response. I had emailed WP separately yesterday and just got a response, so this forum might be duplicating things now.
In the short-term I have walked through the domain mapping process and changed my nameservers, so hopefully (2 – 48 hours from now) that site will stop pointing towards the WordPress version.
Just a quick note on the other point. I definitely purchased this domain on hostgator first. The only thing I intended to purchase on WordPress.com was Domain Mapping. Even though I will swear 10 times over that this is the only option I clicked, it seems that instead of spending $12 for Domain Mapping I spent $17 for Domain Mapping and Registration.
I have no idea how this happened. To be honest, I am VERY VERY SURE that I only selected Domain Mapping. I had no intention of purchasing a separate registration and specifically remember clicking on an option to only do the Domain Mapping, so I am actually pretty upset/suspicious that the domain was somehow re-registered.
But, I guess there’s no way to know what I did now for sure. I wasn’t taking screenshots at the time, and both Domain Mapping and Registration show up on my Paypal summary, so I should have caught it at that point.

I’ll remove the “modlook” tag then. Please folow up with staff to ask them what you purchased indeed and what refund(s) you require.

I was just reporting what I saw when I did a lookup for that domain name. At this point, only staff can confirm for sure what you did.
