How long does it take for WordPress to change an email address?

How long does it take to update my email address? I changed my email address about an hour ago and it still says pending. I haven’t received a confirmation email to the original email address or the one I changed it to. Also by changing my email address will this change my Blog URL as well. I would like my Blog URL to match the new email address. Thank you in advance.

Making your email address and your blog URL match is like putting out a welcome mat for hackers. Hopefully, you get that and know it’s NOT recommended.
I don’t know how long it will take. Please look in your email client spam filter for the confirmation email. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

timethief, thank you for your reply. I’m new to the blogging world so I welcome your comments and advice. Please elaborate about making my email and blog URL different. In the Blog URL I don’t wish to use the domain of my email client I just want the blog URL to match the username of my email to maintain consistency. Is this a mistake?

Not to worry as Staff will chime in on this when they can. Please be patient while waiting and know it’s not in your best interest to post again and bump this thread again as threads with the earliest date stamps and timestamps are dealt with by Staff first.

Hi there,
To complete an email address change, you need to click the link in the confirmation email you receive at the new email address. Otherwise, the new email address will continue to be listed as pending in your account. Please check your Spam/Junk folder to make sure the email didn’t end up there.

Also, please note that changing your email address will not affect your blog URL. If you want to change your blog URL, you can do that by following this guide: Changing a Blog Address

Hi there,
To have the confirmation email resent, you can first cancel the pending email address change. To do this, click the Cancel link in your account settings here: https://wordpress.com/settings/account/
Then re-enter the new email address you’d like to use on that page and click the Save Changes button. This will send a new confirmation email to your new email address. Please be sure to check the spam/junk folder in your email to make sure the confirmation email didn’t end up there.
If you still don’t receive the confirmation email after taking these steps, please let me know!
