How long does it take for WordPress.com to release a domain I cancelled?

  Hello, I purchased my domain through WordPress.com not realizing that I wouldn’t be able to customize a theme that I purchased through a third-party website. I proceeded to cancel my domain through WordPress.com but wanted to know how long it takes for the domain to be released so that the domain will be made available again?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hey there,

  If you’re wanting to register your domain at another host, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.

  Hi Darnell,

  Thank you so much for getting back to me regarding this. I wasn’t aware of the option to move the domain to another site. Can you please contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to my account?

  I checked with the registry and they have officially canceled the domain – so you should be able to re-register it if no one else has already.

  Try to re-register the domain and let me know if you have any trouble.
