How long for domain mapping removal to take place?
-
Hi there,
I cancelled my domain mapping today to move my domain to self-hosting, but wondering how long it will take to work? I’m concerned because right now the site keeps redirecting to https://surewhynot.com.au but I don’t have an SSL certificate with my current hosting.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there,
The moment you change your domain’s name servers away from us our SSL certificate is removed, but it won’t take effect immediately from your perspective. That’s because when you access a WordPress.com site over https we set a header in your browser which tells it to only fetch the site over a secure connection.
This header takes about a day to expire, but you should also be able to force your browser to “forget” it by following the instructions here:
http://classically.me/blogs/how-clear-hsts-settings-major-browsersYou should also be able to view your site over http if you use a different browser which hasn’t loaded the https link recently. On my browser, for example, your site loads over http without any problems.
You should also be aware that for a while search engines will give a https link to your site when returning search results. There is nothing that you can do about that, as you’ll need to wait for the search engines to update their indexes with regards to your site.
Let me know if you have any questions.
