how long for my answer?
-
Am I just impatient or what? I contacted support yesterday about a problem with my feed (a feed validation site says there are two errors in the code) but I haven’t heard anything. How long does it take to get an answer, typically? I’m frustrated because my feed doesn’t work on the garden site, botanical.com, and of course, gardeners are the ones I want reading my site.

It can take 24 hours or so depending on how busy they are, and they just rolled out a bunch of code here so I’m sure they are quite busy.
Typically when your feed does not validate, it is because of something in one of your posts, not an actual problem with the feed itself.
My first suggestion is to go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click save.
Next, start with your most recent post and open it in the editor. Switch from the visual tab to the HTML tab and then back again and then click “update post.” WordPress should automatically correct any formatting or HTML issues in the post. I would suggest working back through your posts one at a time doing this with each post, and checking the feed validation after each. Do note that sometimes it might take a few minutes for the feed to update after the change.
In the past, this procedure has cleared this issue up for a number of people and with the change at settings > writing, it should keep it from happening in the future.

And by the way, we cannot help you with botanical.com. That is not a wordpress.COM hosted site – in fact, it isn’t a wordpress site at all.

Ok, thanks so much. I know blotanical isn’t a wordpress site, I only mentioned it because that’s where I keep getting the feed errors. I already changed my settings to “WP should correct…XHTML automatically, I did that two days ago. But I didn’t know that feed problems were from posts – that’s great information, thank you. I’m going to go try it right now!

I don’t know for certain the feed issues are from posts, but in many if not most cases in the past that is where they have been.
Check your ISP spam filter to make sure their email has not been caught. Sometimes spam filters are a little aggressive.
If staff does not get back to you in a few hours, contact them again. From the nature of the error being reported, perhaps it is a back end issue. Staff should be able to sort it out for you though.
