How long for WP to mature a blog once reported
-
I have a new blog and yesterday in tagsurfer i had a whole page of obsene images show up, which are under the “status” tag from a specific blog. I am not a prude but this blog is so unbelieveably “mature” that i had to report it as i don’t want to be seeing images like that every day. How long does it usually take WP to set a blog as “mature” once it has been reported, because it is still showing up in tagsurfer today. Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am going off line now but can i just say that if WP consider a blog full of images of sex acts and perversion aswell as what is considered “sick” images NOT to be “mature” then WP has just gone down in my estimation and i would rather blog elsewhere than be cocerned about going on tagsurfer for fear of what i might see..

I am not a member of the staff but from what I have seen in the Forum WordPress.com does take the “Mature” content seriously. It can take a few hours for the staff to act on a complaint about a blog as they have a small number of staff for a large number of blogs.
If you have specific questions about Mature you can ask the staff: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

I know Jinty and she has a 15 year old daughter who comes on WordPress, and i think that is her main concern as her daughter uses the status tag. The fact that the blog was still in Tag Surfer a day after being reported is disgusting, especially as they update almost constantly and it fills the entire Tag Surfer page. I have seen the blog in question and i agree there is no way on earth that that blog should get away without having a “Mature” tag, it is sick. Even the URL and blog title is quite specific about what the blog is about, so why did WordPress allow it without a “Mature” tag anyway.

The sad thing is that many people with the worst content just don’t care about kids, marking the blog Mature will reduce traffic to the site. The blog owner could have had their blog marked as Mature at anytime. I have seen some blog owners ask about doing that in the Forum.
Here is the link on Mature: http://en.support.wordpress.com/report-blogs/
The other thing is to look on the blog for advertising and affiliate links and then turn it it based on a Terms of Service Violation. If it is found to be in TOS violation it would probably be removed. Many “Mature” blogs are used to drive traffic off site which is a TOS violation

I don’t really want to go on there again as the blog is aimed at men and as a woman i find the things distasteful, i checked it out after Jinty mentioned it to me. There were many links and things on the side, it didn’t look like a normal blog and while i was on there something flashed up telling me there were 9 new updates and to go back to main page, i think it MAY be driving traffic elsewhere as it had something flashing on the side bar, which i’ve never seen before. We’ll have to see what Jinty says when she comes back as it’s her question. Thank you for you time anyway

Jinty, awhile ago I ran into a couple blogs that were for lack of better terms distasteful in the way I wouldn’t want my daughter to run across so I reported them, the WP.COM staff got back to me by email the same day and let me know that they appreciated the report and were fixing the issue. They do take it very much serious and quite honestly maybe the blog owner wasn’t aware they needed to file their blogs under mature. Who knows?
Wp.COM will take care of it if you report it and they find that there are steps that need to be taken. -
Thank you all. The point is i DID report it yesterday. The blog in question is still there though, and i have not received an email from WP. What is the point? I will not allow my daughter on here again, and i will remove ALL my blogs too as i feel very strongly about this. I am sure if you all saw the blog you would understand why i feel so strongly about it and am making a stand.

Jinty stop being so Scottish!! I’m sure WordPress WILL sort it. This is the best blogging platform in the universe so stick with it my friend.

The behavior sounds classic abusive TOS violation – WordPress.com does suspend blogs – my only suggestion is to have more than one person report the blog as Spam and TOS not Mature (sort of belt and suspenders thing) – I have seen times when it took over 24 hours for a reported blog to make it to the top of the list for suspensions.
My only suggestion is a bit of patience, flagging a blog as Spam will not always get you an email when it is suspended – if you have concerns about the speed or lack of it on this then contact the Staff directly http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
Sorry for your bad experience, I hope things are straightened out soon.

Thanks auxclass. This is NOT belt and suspenders sort of thing (i wouldn’t take any notice of that) this is hard core porn images. Sex acts, weird things like a man having sex with a hoover!!! and to be honest seeing a man with his own ***** in his mouth is not what i want my daughter to see in tagsurfer and i don’t think it should be there.
-
“Belt and suspenders” was in reference to having more than one person flag a blog not the blog content.
The content does sound offensive to most – all I can suggest at this point is patience and to contact the staff directly.
I will flag this thread for staff attention also.
-
@ auxclass you have to forgive Jinty when she’s in this mood, she doesn’t read things properly, but i have to admit i also thought you meant the content of the blog. Too late though as she’s told me she is deleting her blogs as her daughter uses one of them. I guess you can’t blame her really as i also don’t think these images should be in Tag Surfer under the tag “status”.
-
I took no offense –
I am saddened that her and her daughters blogs are going away – there is the option of exporting the content and moving to another host – but I have heard that some of the others are not as well policed as WordPress.com. Blogs can be a great way to share with friends so the loss to their family is really sad.
Some things are self policing here and the staff does not have the time to review the millions of blogs – they seem to do some content checking but I am not sure exactly what they do – I do know that they have deleted many many blogs that violated the TOS and that they do listen to users.
-
And I agree with you Jinty, THAT should be marked as mature ASAP. I’m understanding your frustration level because I have a young daughter and the internet can be an iffy place for a young girl or even any children.
What I am wondering is if this thread could be flagged so someone from WP.COM could know to contact you by email to help straighten this out? I’m not saying to contact you to sell you on staying but I am worried that since you know what website this is and if you leave wordpress without them knowing that this blog is still marked as non mature other children could come across it.
I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad experience with this because wordpress has been a safe place for myself to express many things. -
-
You’ve all been very helpful but Jinty has deleted the blogs now. I think she was angry because she thought immediate action would be taken against this blog. I understand that WP are very busy especially having to catch up after the Christmas holidays, but Jinty was shocked at what her daughter was subject to on a site Jinty thought was “safe”. And i have to agree with her. That blog should not be so easily available.

Here’s Mark, head of WP Support, on Mature:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/definition-of-mature?replies=7#post-467756Hardcore porn isn’t just “mature”, and it’s expressly against the wp.com TOS. As auxclass said, Jinty should have clicked “Report as spam”, not “Report as Mature”.
-
It’s a bit late now i guess but who would think it was spam? I certainly wouldn’t. Most people would just click the link that says “Mature”. So basically the blog remains fully viewable in Tag Surfer just because Jinty reported it as Mature instead of Spam. That’s sad.
