How Long to Transfer Blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m transferring my WordPress.com blog to a self-hosted blog. I exported stuff, requested transfer on both ends, but I have no idea how long to expect it to take and I can’t find anything about that. Approximately how long does it take before my domain gets transferred? I’m assuming it will just disappear when WordPress releases it for transfer (and then I rebuild it on the self-hosted site). Is that true?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi There,

Keegan here, WordPress.com expert community member, I would be happy to help.

If you would like for WordPress.com experts to transfer your blog you can use this paid service, The service takes 24 hours – https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

If your new host is helping you transfer the site, you will need to follow these directions – https://move.wordpress.com/

Note that there is no FTP access to WordPress.com if the hosting company asks for this.

Please let me know if this answers your question, or if you need further assistance :)

Thanks for that link but I already started that process and I don’t think it looks that complicated that I need help – my blog is pretty simple.

As for the instructions, I’m of the opinion that I’ve now done all I can do, for the moment, and just have to wait. That’s where things are at, right now, as I’d said.

Oh I see, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Name server changes usually take 24 to 48 hours to fully start working. This period, called propagation, is the projected length of time it takes for root name servers and cache records across the entire web to be updated with your website’s DNS information.

Hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.
