How long will it take for WordPress.com to release a domain I cancelled with them?

  Hello, I purchased a domain from WordPress.com not realizing that I wouldn’t be able to upload a customized theme that I purchased from a third-party. I cancelled the domain I purchased immediately (within a few hours) from WordPress.com but want to be able to purchase this domain again once it’s released from another third-party. Typically, how long does it take WordPress.com to release a cancelled domain?

  Hey there,

  If you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site
