How many child pages can a Twenty Thirteen site contain?
-
Hi, Is there a limit to how many child pages can be added to a site? On my site I have a page that contains several categories. I would like to make all the categories names a link to a hidden page. I would need about 40 hidden pages. Is that ok?
My alternative would be to reduce that to 6 main headers and make them links to much larger hidden pages. I am concerned that the amount of content would then make those pages to hefty to load in a reasonable amount of time.
If you would like to see what I am referring go to Best of Photos on the main menu. I am thinking the best idea is to create a page for each country name rather than a link to the continent and then put all the countries inside that continent page. I hope that makes sense.
Thanks, Tim
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Another option I have been thinking of is utilizing the slideshow gallery. Is there a way for the viewer to increase that to Full Screen?
Thanks, Tim -
Hi Tim,
There’s no official limit, but can you explain a bit more what you mean by a “hidden” page?
What you might want to do is create category drop-down menus:
Category PagesFor example, all your featuring photos from, say, Cambodia, would be added to a “Cambodia” category. Then, you’d add a category tab for Cambodia as a submenu under Best of Photos. When readers clicked on that tab, they’d get an automatic list of all posts in that category.
Doing it this way is good because then you don’t have to keep manually updating the static pages with new links.
Another option I have been thinking of is utilizing the slideshow gallery. Is there a way for the viewer to increase that to Full Screen?
The slideshow doesn’t open up into the full-screen carousel like the other galleries do.

Hi, Thanks for getting back to me. By “hidden page” I just mean one that isn’t part of the menu but a link in a page will take you to it. For instance if you click on the link Cambodia under “Best of Photos” you will be taken to a page. You cannot get to that page from anywhere else though.
The reason I would prefer not to add sub-menus is that the list would be too long and that would in-turn make it unsightly.
Thanks again,

Hi Tim,
Gotcha. You can still use category archives for that; you’d just make the hyperlink to http://flattiresandslowboats.com/category/cambodia/
If you’re just asking how many pages you can create and link to from another page, it’s limitless.

Thanks Eurello. I am going to take up your suggestion and use the Category archives for the Countries Visited page so as to link to all posts for regarding that country.
As always I appreciate your help.

Hi Tim,
Perfect! You’re very welcome, and if that doesn’t work out for you for whatever reason, let me know and we’ll keep thinking. :)
