How many is considered a lot of posts?

I suppose its a subjective question but I’m curious what number of posts on a particular blog is considered a lot. I have only been with WP since April of this year but I post almost daily (I have 116). I would assume that there are blogs with thousands of posts but does it not reach a point where there is just too much info for a new reader to digest?

My blog started similarly as I post a lot of travel photos. And I was writing about a lot of other topics as well.
What I ended up doing was making a couple of other blogs on different subjects. So now each of my blogs has a focus. I have found this has made it easier for readers to find what they want. So if you had say 2 main topics and a number of miscellaneous ones you could focus your blog on one of the topics and have another blog for the second of them and a third for miscellaneous. Its no more difficult to keep up a number of blogs than one.
In fact its a little easier because sometimes one wants to continue with an idea from an earlier post and hunting around for it can become time consuming if you’ve got a couple of hundred or a couple of thousand posts.
And if you have a post that is relevant to two of your blogs you can then tailor it to each specific audience. I find my different blogs attract very different readers but sometimes they check out the other ones as well. So for those who are stats obsessed the loss of readers on one site by dividing it up can be compensated for by readers coming from the other sites.

Great response, thank you! I have three blogs all related to my focus, one in English, one in Portuguese and one editorial….although I do see what you are saying. Perhaps I can create other blogs out of the larger categories. So far, I have been checking the posts per category to make sure I distribute the everything more or less evenly.
My particular problem is I deal with every aspect of an entire country, so you could see how that might get confusing for a first-timer. At least I can start on the process of dividing things up in a better way.

I would say that more than 5 or so per day would be a lot, but I consider that to be 5 very long posts. If you do like 30 posts a day, but you are only doing small amounts, that wouldn’t be a lot of posts to me. That’s why I use twitter or Pownce for smaller posts.

I usually do between one to three per day during the weekdays. My initial goal was to reach 100 but that has come and gone so with that goal being met, I need to think about other aspects such as possibly making it easier to navigate.
