How many posts to put on a page?
-
I realize that the software of a template has its own limitations in post nubers, but within those parameters, What is the optimum number of posts to put on a page? I ask this because of what I just read in the Site Meter Help:
” Statistics Help [Close]
This graph shows the average visit duration and page view duration for every day this month. Visit duration is how long a visitor stays on your site. Page view duration is how long a visitor views a single page. This graph shows how successful the site is at holding the visitors interest. It is also useful in determining the amount of content to place in a single page. “The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It depends on the length of posts. Many of your posts are on the long side, so my suggestion would be 5, even perhaps 3. I keep mine set to 3 so that my posts end just a little lower than my sidebar typically because I don’t like the empty space to the right of my posts when there is nothing showing in the sidebar lower down on the page. Mine is an aesthetic decision, but also it keeps page load times fast which I also like.

Sacred Path: I just now read this answer and will change the numbers of posts to put on a page. Thank you very much.
I am just thinking: There is a downside. That downside is that people have to click the OLDER POSTS link more often, and they may not like that. 8-(

Ok. I just went and changed the settings to show NINE posts to a page, because that is where the right sidebar ends. :-) Following your lead. :-) I appreciate the way you answer with an answer but also a reason. That helps. :-)

You’re welcome. It really is personal choice, but one concrete reason is to keep page loading times shorter. That is particularly important for image heavy sites. There are still a substantial number of people out there on dial up or slow 256k broadband and it is always nice when we keep them in mind. I know they appreciate it.

Perhaps I am misinterpreting the question, and the answer. My blog is http://100daysofbones.wordpress.com/
What i want to have happen is that eventually, when someone clicks the link to my blog, they won’t see all 100 episodes of BONES discussed. How do i get it so that let’s say there are 10 ‘episodes’ on one ‘page’. I realize that using the term page is somewhat misleading. I’m not talking about the ‘pages’ i have set up (episodes, disclaimer, etc), but rather that at the bottom of the computer screen, it would say something like “older entries” and if someone clicked on that, they would get to the next ten episodes, etc.
Sorry if i did misinterpret the above. I do not mean to highjack a forum q or post.
The above discussion does talk about posts and pages, but when I went to my edit area, I didn’t see anything that allowed me to choose 3 per page or 9 per page, as was discussed above. Thanks!

Go to your dashboard. On the ‘Settings’ pane, click ‘Reading’. There, you can specify how many posts you want to be displayed.
