How may I change the *username* of my site administrator?
-
I have changed the name (site address) of the blog and the responsible email address. All easy as pie. However, the administrator name remains “oldname” then “@newname”. My strategy was (I thought) to add “newname” as site admin, make it primary, then delete “oldname”. But WordPress won’t let me add “newname” as a new site admin because (of course) “newname” already has an e-mail address among the site users. I’m therefore at a loss, simply, to change “oldname’s” username”. A seemingly simple task, but no-O-o.

Hello –
Unfortunately, you can’t change the username, as you have discovered. What I do to get around this is I add a new admin with the username I want using a second email address (just another email address that I have). Then, I login as that new username and delete the original username that I didn’t want. By deleting that original username, I can now update the new username with the correct email address. :)Hope that helps!

Thanks, marshala5, for your reply. It makes perfect sense. After some finagling I was even able to change that username on my own, BUT WordPress in a couple places gave me gripes about going someplace in Google (maybe because my base is a Gmail address) to change a username too. Nope. All is now well on WordPress but for one eensy thing, I’ll keep fiddling with. In Notifications on my main WordPress account panel I can choose (or not) to direct stuff to the old username. I’ll leave it be for now…
(FWIW and you can pass it around, of the *many* software fora I use, WordPress is the *only* that yields patient, useful answers. I won’t go to the depths of naming others…)
I appreciate your taking the time to reply, and I thank you.
