How might I change a one-column layout into a three column layout?
-
Hi, everyone:
I am looking into customizing my blog. Right now, I’m still playing around with the free previews to see if I am able to figure out CSS (well, at least partially!) before I buy the customization. Might there be a way to change the one-column Manifest theme into a three-column layout (with both right and left side bars) using CSS? I haven’t been able to figure this out so far …
Thanks for any help!

The CSS upgrade cannot be used to add a sidebar to pages which do not have one already. That would require hacking of the underling PHP script files, which we cannot do on free hosted WordPress.com blog .

Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content. … http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions -
Thanks, timethief. It is possible to change the width of the sidebars, though, yes? And might it be possible to “widen” an entire theme–so it stretches across a larger portion of the screen?
Thanks.

Manifest is designed to be a single column Tumbleblog theme. There are no sidebars at all on that theme.

I apologize, timethief. I should have been clearer. Say, for example, I choose a two or three column theme. With the CSS upgrade, will I be able to change the widths of those columns? And will I be able to increase the width of the entire blog?

All CSS editing is theme specific and here’s a link to all the Manifest CSS threads so you can read what can be done > http://tinyurl.com/88bgusp
