How much

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to help a friend with a site, but he can’t get on wordpress because he has no email address. So I said I would make him his site. But then I remembered that it cost money to have a second domain(or third, my friend eve asked me as well) So is it yearly or one time you have to pay and how much is it?

You don’t have to pay to just register a new blog, only to get a special domain name. And the domain name upgrade is yearly. Register a free blog name by going to http://Wordpress.com and clicking on “register a new blog” but they won’t be able to post to it unless they get an email address, because they won’t be able to be WordPress.com users without an email address. Simplest just to get them a gmail account.

I still have to use my email, My friend doesn’t have emails. Neither does my other friend. I already used my email for my site.

You don’t understand. Your friends will not be able to post to their blogs unless they have a WordPress username. And you can’t get a WordPress username without an email.

Thats the problem, My friends can’t get in because they have to use MY email. But since they want to join in wordpress the most, well they just can’t get in! But please, answer my question. I’m adding the sites on MY account. So do you know how much 1 or 2 new added sites cost?

Never mind! Thanks Raincoster! I owe you one!(a big one)

You’re welcome. Remember that if you give them your User ID, they can see everything on all your blogs and even change them or delete them, because WordPress will think they are you.

I don’t get it. What’s the problem about getting an e-mail address in the first place? If you have a computer and you can get online, you can get an e-mail address, surely. Well, maybe in some countries you can’t (Burma?), or in some specific places (jail?), but other than that…

How well do you know these people? Sounds like they are trying to scam you somehow. If they have internet access, why can’t they get an email account? Even communist China has email accessibility I believe. If they can’t access an email provider because of where they live, then I’m sure they can’t access WordPress.com. And why are you setting up their blogs for them? Setting up an email account for them is already more than enough. There’s nothing to set up here. It’s already done for us. They just have to pick a template and then start blogging. And as raincoaster just said:

Remember that if you give them your User ID, they can see everything on all your blogs and even change them or delete them, because WordPress will think they are you.

I hope the email you used isn’t your own primary main email account. And that the User ID is completely different than of your own. If so, delete their email accounts and blogs and get new email accounts and new blogs and start over separate from your own User ID and your own email account. It’s just seems fishy from their end.

If you buy them their domain names, then remember to put their personal information and not yours or else your personal information will end up on WhoIs. Unless you find one that won’t. I don’t know how the domain buying process works but would the name on the credit card (yours) show up on WhoIs as well?

As I already said, you’ve done too much already for them.

There not ALLOWED to have email, thats why. I’m not suer why but there not allowed. Besides, I let them work on there site at there house from my account.

What do you mean I’ve done “to much for them?” There my friends(I also like to work on there sites as well, I like there/my site) And its a treat for them! Adam gto sick last week and had it for 5 days!

I didn’t mean to imply anything bad. But with so many Club Penguins blogs here and then come on the forum saying how they lost their blogs to someone they trusted, I just don’t trust anyone.

I don’t have a domain name but I believe the cost is a yearly fee. And it can range from different prices. Try to find one where your personal information is not made public. Here is the FAQ on domains http://faq.wordpress.com/?s=domain And I believe you also have to pay for the domain mapping here too. Just read everything on the FAQ first on domains and domain mapping and the cost for the upgrade.

O.k! Besides, we trust each other. Thanks a lot!
