How much do I have to worry about problems with Internet Explorer 7?

    Hi

I am setting up my blog and I realized that there are a few problems with Internet Explorer 7. For example, the theme I chose (Wu Wei) has a bug with the menu which means viewers cannot click any menu bar that has more than 1 sub-menus. (problem reported to admin and it is being looked into, but it is unclear how long it will take to sort out)

Another example is that it cannot view the stars that are written using HTML, even though a full code is used and the correct code is chosen to view.

I don’t know currently what percentage of users are using IE 7, Firefox , Chrome or others so I don’t know whether a problem with IE 7 is big enough for me to worry about? (e.g. delaying the launch of my blog until the bug is resolved, etc)

    Does anyone know?

    Thank you.

Total IE usage is between about 60 and 29% depending on what study you information source you look at, so it is something to be aware of.

This page supposedly takes into account the entire world, not just certain countries or geographical areas.

    thanks for the statistics!

oh no, IE still has such a big user group. I have no choice but to pray that the bug problem will be resolved soon. :(

On the statistics, overall web statistics should definitely be considered, but also the statistics for your particular site as well (something that sadly isn’t available to wordpress.com users). As an example on my own self-hosted blog, IE only accounts for typically around 25-30% of my visitors while Firefox accounts for around 47%. One one of my client’s sites, IE accounts for more than 70% of her visitors with Firefox only accounting for about 20%.

    [opinion]

Quite truthfully if I had my way, the web would simply walk away from IE compliance entirely. MS has thumbed their noses at web standards for so long and tried to force everyone to do it “their” way that I have little tolerance for them anymore. The only reason I continue to worry about IE is for my visitors (or my client’s visitors). If I could talk all of them into using anything but IE, then I would no longer even consider IE.

MS has again said that with IE9 they are going to completely support web standards, but from some reports I’ve read, they are still selectively deciding not to support certain things in CSS standards, which makes me wonder if they even know the meaning of the word “compliance.”

    Absolutely agree with thesacrepath’s opinion.

I have seen a lot of problems in visualisation on IE and also a bit on Firefox in window$. Then I put an notice about it in a text widget: “The content of this blog is made to be seen with Firefox on Ubuntu, when using another browser … etc.”
