How much do we have to pay for the re-activation of our domain?
-
Dear Sir or Madam,
I have discovered that the domain for our organization has expired and now I am wondering how much it costs to reactivate it. in case of enormous late fees, could you please give me some advice on what other options there are?
I look forward to hearing from you.

WordPress.COm charges only the domain mapping fee. If the domain is in redemption then you have to pay whatever the domain name registar sets as their redemption fee. Read the options here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/

Focus on this statement: Domain Released
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/#domain-releasedIf you fail to renew prior to expiry then you no longer own the URL. The domain name registrar owns it and can sell it to whoever they want for whatever price they choose to set.
As the domain URL is still available you can buy it and a domain mapping upgrade again.

Thanks for the extremely quick reply. So, I checked what was hiding behind the link for “renew your domain”. It got me to the upgrade section, where the next best option after “free” was premium for 99$. Is this accurate or am I missing something?

Hi there,
We can potentially recover domain until 80 days past expiry. Your domain expired over 200 days ago, so it is not possible for us to recover it at all any more.
The good news is your domain is showing as available to register, so if you go to My Sites and click on Domains you should be able to just add that domain to register at again at the normal price.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/Note that while the Premium Plan includes a free domain, you don’t need to buy Premium to register a domain.
Let me know if you have any more questions about this.

Hello, thanks for the reply. So, it cannot be recovered. Ok. I followed your instructions and it got me to the “add domain section” (18€). Alright. So, after one year, what is the renewal price going to be?
And the last thing that I would now like to know is if I can somehow transfer the data posts etc. from the expired one to the new one or at least donwload my old media library? Or will I have to do everything from scratch?
Thanks for all the help!
Have a nice morning/day/evening (wherever you might be).

You will essentially be registering this domain as a new domain, so it will cost 18 Euro (if you don’t include private registration) and except for normal price and currency fluctuations it will renew at the same cost each year.
Your site itself wasn’t lost at all. Every WordPress.com site has a free address where your content is hosted. If you buy a custom domain, it is laid over the free address, but the domain is really only a label. If you lose the domain, you just go back to using the free address.
All your content is still visible at https://bts2013.wordpress.com/
I see you are not the owner of that site, but you are an admin, so you can buy the domain for it again if you prefer, or you can have the site owner do it again.
-
Oh, I see. Thanks for all the patience in explaining it to me. Well, since I am already bothering you, could I ask 1 more question? I wouldn’t like to open another thread for it and flood your board.
Since the name of our website (bts2013) is not to our liking anymore, we were wondering whether it is possible to change it. Do we have to make another site (I saw the option under add new website)? If so, is it somehow possible to carry the files over?
Thanks for the help.

If you are going to register a custom domain it’s not necessary to change the free address of your current site, as visitors will only see the custom domain. So, just pick a new custom domain you want, and you can leave it at that.
However, it is also possible to change the free address. To do that, click on My Sites ->Settings. The Change Address option will be on that page. That will change the free WordPress.com address without affecting anything else. In other words, your content, theme and followers will still be there, only the address will be different. You can find complete instructions here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/To change the actual title that appears on the page, go to My Sites ->Settings. That option is at the top of that page. You can change the title and address independently from each other, and they don’t need to match.
