how much does just domain registration cost per year?

    I am up for renewal soon and I am looking to add more control over my blog. I’m looking at all of my options and considering a hosting solution outside of wordpress.com, but I am wondering what it would cost to maintain wordpress.com as my domain registrar. What is the yearly fee? Is there any reason I shouldn’t be considering this as an option?

    Hello there,

    You can definitely keep the domain registered with WordPress.com while using a different hosting. To renew just the domain is going to cost you about $18, going to $26 if you want to enable the privacy option.
    To do that just login to WordPress.com and from the blog dashboard access Store > My Upgrades.
    You will have just to renew the domain you have.

    You can consider also to host your domain externally, it depends on what are your plans and if you prefer to have everything in one place. It’s difficult to tell which choice is better in general terms.
