How much to upgrade to get rid of adverts

We have a very simple, free site for our local Town Hall charity. It’s not much used, but recently perhaps has been viewed enough to trigger adverts all over it. I’m presuming we need to upgrade to a paid-for site to get rid of these. What is the easiest and cheapest way to do this, please. It’s a UK based query. Questions below seem to be answered in dollars.

  • Hi Ann –

Yes, free WordPress.com sites display ads. This is not a new change. You’ve probably just been viewing the site with an ad blocker in place.

The pricing page should be displayed in your currency. You’ll need the personal plan: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Thank you. So I can see that for only £4 a month we can upgrade – or £7 a month for more bells and whistles. Would both of these options take us out of the trap of having adverts placed on our site?

Also when I go to the next step by clicking on personal or professional, it assumes I want to create a new site. I don’t. I want to upgrade and existing site. How do I do that, please?

  • Any paid plan will remove the ads from your site so you can choose based on other features you’d like. Please note though that the billing is annual and not monthly.

To upgrade an existing site, please log into your WordPress.com account and go to My Site>Plan>Plans and choose the desired plan from there. It will be added to the cart and you’ll be redirected directly to the checkout.

    I hope that helps :)
