How reverse domain cancellation so I can use my domain and then transfer it?

Help! WordPress doesn’t say HOW to reverse a domain cancellation, and I need mine back. Please advise. I only have three days to do this, I think, from what I saw in another forum post.

    Hi there,

I just started a trial for a domain and then cancelled it, not realizing I couldn’t use SiteBuilder don’t he plan I can afford. Without a drag and drop editor, WordPress is no good. So, I’m going back to Squarespace.

Now, though, I’m getting all sorts of things saying my domain may not be available to me to host somewhere else? What gives with that? Like, WordPress is holding it hostage? If I cancel it and get a refund within three days (which I already did) won’t I be able to just register it with another host????

It now says I have to pay a broker service fee.

The messaging is so threatening. Please clarify for me.

  • Hi! Your domain was brand new when you cancelled it, so you’ve got a few options:

Wait: You can wait about five days for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you can purchase it again here or with another provider.

Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice for the domain. Once it’s restored, it will redirect to your free site, or you can point it to another host and transfer after 60 days.

Purchase an Annual Plan: To host your site here after all, buy an annual plan, skip the domain option, then update us here.

Let us know what you prefer and we’ll get that going. Thanks!

  • Also I’ve just found your other request and merged it into this one.

Just to clarify, domains go on “hold” for a bit after being cancelled. The hold is pretty short in most cases if the domain was just registered, which is why we were able to refund you for it.

If the domain is a little older, the process is more complex, and I’m guessing you must have read about one of those. In this case it’s pretty straightforward, though.

Let us know whether you’d like to restore it here, or wait and register it elsewhere.

Also, while it’s not drag and drop, you can do a lot with the editor here. With great power comes a slightly greater learning curve, but we’re here to help if you want to go that route.

thankyou for your very prompt and helpful reply! I will wait the five days (or so). If it’s still not available, can I still repurchase it through WordPress, or do I have to do that with in the first 72 hours?

  • Hi there!

Yes, you would be able to repurchase it with us or another domain registrar.

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having getting started at WordPress.com. If you tell me a bit about the site you are looking to create, I’d be happy to provide some recommendations!

I also wanted to see if you were aware of our service, called Built By Express, which is a service that would allow you to hire WordPress.com professionals to build your site for you, with the specifications you desire. If you were to signup for this service, which starts at $499, our professional team of builders can build you a website with 5 custom pages, and deliver that site to you within 4 business days. Is this something you would be interested in?

If so, you can get started here:
