how safe is it to use themes created and published on youtube?

I have been trying to create a nice website and i have been following tutorials on youtube on how to do this. As the tutorials go by, there is always a point where I am re-directed to a website where i can download themes of which i may customize later. My problem is, I am not comfortable with downloading these themes and uploading them into my WordPress as i fear compromising the security of my website. Are these recomended steps on these tutorials safe to follow?

You cannot install any custom theme or any third party theme into any wordpress.COM hosted blog and there is no upgrade that changes that. You are confusing WordPress.ORG software with WordPress.COM hosted blogs.
There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

If you want to hire a web host go to http://wordpress.org/hosting first and then set up your own WordPress.ORG install.
