How secure are private blogs?

I was wondering how secure are private blogs from hackers, assuming nobody knows my password? How strong are the security protections?

We need the URL of the blog in question beginning with http before anyone can give you accurate advice.

If you mean security through password protection from hackers, well, not everything is safe. Some hackers are just that good. I would suggest an extremely jumbled password going beyond ten characters. Mix letters with numbers, and make sure it has no sense to it. Just don’t forget it!

However, if you mean a private blog that only YOU can see… It will be just that. From support:

“Private – Posts are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private posts are not visible in Blog Surfer, feeds, or in any search. A post can be private without being password protected.”

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/

Note that under that quote, you can go as far as to password protect a post.

    Hope this helps.

I would say that private blogs are reasonably secure. The weakest point is probably the security of the local PCs of your permitted readers. WordPress make no claims about private blogs being safe from staff.

In other words I would trust a secure blog for low-level secrets, like a sales team from a small company keeping notes on accounts. However I would not trust it for highly secret information where competitors could potentially offer huge bribes to people to reveal secret information, and I certainly would not recommend using it to store your country’s nuclear secrets.
