How tags work in the blogosphere

  I have a couple of general questions about WP categories/tags. First I would like to describe what I think I know.

  I have learned how to add Technorati tags. I understand that WP post categories and tags are one in the same. I assume that Technorati tags raises the profile of your blog for searches on that site.

  Do WP categories/tags on posts increase traffic to your blog in other ways? If so, how does it help someone in the blogosphere find you? Thanks

  I get perhaps one hit a day through Technorati tags. I’ll get 20 or so through WordPress tags. Does that help?

  Search engine spiders pick up on the tags as well within your posts. Also remember that the tag system is also linking back to your blog as well and since the topic of those tag pages are the tag words themselves…
