How to access header.php in WordPress.com site

Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to access the header.php file on a WordPress.com site? (is a free hosted site through WordPress.com)
I see references to the file in a lot of posts on how to tweak your site, but not sure how to get to it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can’t access the header.php files at WordPress.COM – you can’t change any of the php files for security reasons. We all share the common theme files and if someone messed up a php file it could take down many blogs or worse.
The references you see to change the code are for WordPress.ORG installs.

Here’s the main link to support documentation. http://en.support.wordpress.com You will find that the searchbox there not only provides the links to support entries but also to forum threads. In many cases I find that using the searchbox means getting answers to questions more quickly than by posting to the forum does. :)Best wishes with your blog. :)

Jetpack is not for use wordpress.COM free hosted blogs. It can only be used on self -hosted wordpress.ORG installs.

Yes: by posting, and by adding appropriate tags and categories to your posts. Search engines need a sitemap, and in all wp.com blogs the sitemap is created automatically.

@monksandhiggsonfood – hijacking a thread and changing the subject is considered poor form and bad Karma.
Your question is the single most ask question here – either search the forum or support documents a bit or just look back a couple of days in the Forum and you should find hundreds of ideas to increase traffic.
Keep in mind that it can take Google 4 to 6 weeks to index a new blog and your blog at two weeks is not yet up to a speck in internet time yet.

No hijacking/change of thread/offence intended. I am completely new to this (have only had a blog for 2 weeks) and thought I was asking a question which was connected to the original persons’s problem. Will think better of it next time. Thank you for your comments

@monksandhiggsonfood, each time you publish a post, wordpress pings all the major search engines and services, so really all you need to do is keep posting. It can take sometimes 4-6 weeks for the search engines to index your site and of course it will take a little while for your site to gain enough search engine ranking to show up higher in search results, but it will happen.
One of the great things about wordpress.COM is that they take care of all search engine stuff for us and that allows us to spend our time blogging instead of dealing with all the technical issues.
