How to activate newly downloaded widgets
-
In my http://mybestretirementplan.wordpress.com/ blog, I want to add social links to either my blog page or home page. I downloaded this social links widget wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-social-link-widget and am wondering now how to move it into the right directory and activate it, so that I can see it in my list of available widgets. I don’t see this option in my admin screen. Where can I find this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello,
You’ll need to ask your questions here. This forum is strictly for WordPress.com blogs.
This article in the WordPress Codex should answer your questions, however. Alternately, you can use the built-in plugin installer.
Any further help will have to come from the WordPress.org forums.

@cmcconachie03, if you are talking about the site linked to your username which is hosted here at wordpress.com, we cannot use plugins for security reasons. Plugins are only for self-hosted wordpress installations using the software from wordpress.ORG.

OK…thank you! This brings up another question though and perhaps the reason for my confusion about activating widgets in the first place…I started developing the blog under : http://mybestretirementplan.wordpress.com/. After this was alrerady underway, I was given the URL for the “ultimate” blog address, once I am finished with it. I chose the option in WordPress to map this blog to the following URL (Go Daddy is the host) http://www.mybestretirementplan.com. This is where I ultimately want it to be, so is there a way to make this change or do I have to “remap” it somehow?

@cmcconachie03 – please follow the instructions given in this article to map your domain to your blog: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain

Hello again…
I attempted to go through the instructions that you referred me to earlier; however, I could not get through step 2 under “Instructions for Mapping an Existing Domain”. When I attempt to Add the domain, http://www.mybestretirementplan.com to my blog, it says it already exists. I remember going through step 1 earlier with the name servers on Go Daddy, but must have left out some steps on the WordPress end. So basically, what I have is a domain name that is mapped to a blog under my account, however, I really need to map it permanently to another blog under my account, http://mybestretirementplan.wordpress.com, and can’t figure out how this is done. I welcome your thoughts! -
If you need to change it from one blog to another, you may need to contact staff to make the switch.
