This is a peer support forum where Volunteers and Staff work cooperatively to deliver WordPress.com support. There is no phone support here and we Volunteers do not provide support by email.

Volunteers answer most questions posted into forum threads and Staff monitor. When Volunteers cannot provide the required support we flag threads for Staff attention.

Though some bloggers think their questions are unique and require Staff intervention it’s my experience based on answering over 72,000 support forum questions here for years longer since most Staff have been on staff is that just isn’t so. Seeing a question posted into a thread here that has never been asked before is a rare event indeed. Please just simply and clearly state exactly what you need help with in this thread please.

Or you can email support [at] wordpress [dot] com.

Alrighty then let me try and layout the situation and also express that I’m am disappointed that customer support is this time consuming. This issue is more specifically about the gravatar login process. I manage several accounts and several unique “wordpress logins” and I have reset my browser cache and history several times and the gravatar login page relentlessly signs me back into to the last person logged in keeping me from logging on as a different user thus why the first question came up as gillian. Do I really need to go to the wordpress site directly everytime I need to log in and out?

If you are the same person then know that you have described what happens when you instruct your browser to “remember me”. Many of us simply use two different browsers ie. one for each username account and do not click that “remember me” link.

yes I looked at that and mentioned I adjusted my browers settings, history, and tried incognito mode on top of trying chrome, firefox, and ie.

So I’ll tag this thread for Staff to explain how browser and cookies operate. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    Hi there,

Your browser cookies will remember your logged in status in WordPress.com/Gravatar for a while, and may persist even if you shut your computer down. The same thing will happen with Facebook, Gmail, and many other services.

To log in as a different user, you will need to log out of WordPress.com and log in with the other login account. This is why we always recommend that for people who share computers with others, that they log out of WordPress.com whenever they’re done.

As far as I understand it, Chrome’s incognito feature should open up a new session each time, but you have to close out the incognito window when you’re done.

For more information on browser cookies, see:

I considered this I understand cookies. I dont check the remember me box either. So basically I need to go to wordpress to login in and out of the gravatar page? So why bother with a logout option on the gravatar page at all? I understand that your wordpress and gravatar are the same account I just dont understand why a login and a log off is necessary on the gravatar page at all if the only way i can switch users is to go to wordpress and logoff. Now I understand my case is unique since i manage 100 or more different logins and need the ability to switch users constantly. However I do feel its not a crazy idea to when you click logout on the gravatar homepage that you actually siginout. Im sorry that this was not a FAQ for you.

    Hi there,

I have investigated this issue. Because logging into Gravatar also logs you into WordPress.com (which is a good thing if you wish to comment on blogs using your Gravatar account), this means you will need to log out specifically from WordPress.com in order to clear your Gravatar login credentials.

This is a known issue and we’re looking into ways to make managing our services within the WordPress.com universe (which includes Gravatar) easier for our users.

For now, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
