How to add a menu/ categories

    Hello

Am looking to add a category menu? to the side of my blog, so that people can see the names of different posts basically (themes, as my blog is related to kids parties, so have a list like Cars Party, Circus Party etc), as opposed to just seeing June/ July etc and having to search through posts.
Is this at all possible without having to change the theme or are they all set on what you can do ? As have looked through but cant seem to find one that has a side menu but fits in with the type of style I need. Also is it possible to make the header larger or again do you need to change the theme ? Im extremely new to blogging & how it all works.
    Thanks!

  • There’s a lot you can accomplish with just about any theme on WordPress.com by using widgets to snap things in and out of your sidebar. What you’re looking for to display your categories is the Categories Widget: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/

The size of the header image is a set part of the theme and can’t be changed without using a Custom CSS upgrade, and even then can be difficult to do. It’s likely best to find a theme that’s the width you’re looking for and use widgets to mix up your sidebar to get the stuff you want.
