How to add a plugin
-
I am trying to add a plugin I downloaded and when I looked on the wordpress help section, I was told to go to “add plugin” link and start there. Where on earth is it?! I looked all over the dashboard. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,
The reason that you are struggling to find the plug-in page is because one does not exist on WordPress.com. Many plug-in features are already built-in to WordPress.com’s stream-lined technology; for a full list, please click here. In the name of simplicity, WordPress.com does not allow users to install their own plug-ins. You would need to self-host your website in order to install your own plug-ins.
If you wanted to use a plugin you downloaded, you would have to use WordPress.org technology and host your website yourself outside of WordPress.com; in spite of the similarities in names, WordPress.ORG is very different than WordPress.COM. For a full list of the differences, please click here.
I hope that answers your question. =)

That is very helpful Sarah! Thank you so much. I actually have another question you might be able to help me with. All of my blog posts are posted in their entirety on my home page. Can you tell me how to to just give a snippet that people can click on to read more? The ones I have seen have the first few sentences and a picture and a link that says “more.”
Any help is appreciated.

You’re very welcome; it’s my pleasure!
Well, I scoured the internet for answers to this, and it looks like there isn’t one glorious “apply all” button to create a “Read More” button for each of your posts–some themes do this automatically, but the LoveCraft theme that you’re using isn’t one of them.
For your theme, you’re going to want to edit former posts (or create new ones).
In the blog editor above the writing space, there is a list of small buttons that let you bold your text, italicize it, add pictures, etc. There is a button there that will enable you to cut off your text and add a “Read More” button.
If you look in that row, you’ll see a button with a top line, a bottom line, and three dashes in the middle. It is next to the small abc checkmark (spellcheck) button and the @ symbol button. Press that, and it will create a “Continue Reading” button; only the text above the button will display on your main page.
Here is the help document for more detailed instructions on creating just a snippet of each text–this has a photo reference so you can see the “More Tag” button that I mentioned.
Let me know if that didn’t answer your question. =)
